Normal Feet
If there is a loss of side support or there is no side support it is high arches. People can lose their side support in various ways for example the side support gradually disappearing/getting narrower or even develop high arches from flat feet.
People can lose the side support differently on each side of the foot and have different degrees of high arches, which can cause an unbalanced condition.
High arches is a de-generative process of the tendons and ligaments in the leg, calf and shin. As the tendons and ligaments shrink, they get shorter and pull the bone structure up from the feet and the navicular area (top of the feet). With this process it lifts up the side support and eventually the side support doesn't touch the ground surface. This is clearly visible on the 3D picture.
This condition can occur regardless of whether the patient also has flat feet or not , as this is a leg problem and not a foot problem. Symptoms of High arches include cramps in the calf muscles, tight feeling in the leg, shin splints, sore Achilles, sore knees, hips and lower back as well as pronation.
People with high arches are also quite unstable (due to lack of support through the feet) - this can lead to more accidents and injury.
There is absolutely no side support on either foot. No visible pressure on the long arch area as it is such a high arch that it doesn't even touch the surface.
The side support is gradually fading away/getting narrower and losing the side support. This is a developing high arch. There is two different degrees of high arch on the left and right foot.
This picture shows, developing high arches from flat feet. You can see the wide side support indicating flat feet, which is starting to fade away and losing the wide side support gradually. This is a combined and complex problem - has flat feet, a foot problem, and developing high arches, which is a leg problem.
Treatment: The built in modules in the patients Pedikom Orthotics will re-distribute the body weight into the places where it should be. With this process it will start to restore the healthy side support.
